Assessment of Frailty
Kim Kyoung-Eun

Lim Jae-Young
Abstract
It is generally agreed that frailty is a state of increased vulnerability to stressors due to impairments in multiple systems that lead to decline in homeostatic reserve. However, the substantial assessment method of frailty is not standardized. Various components can be included in the frailty assessment, such as mobility, muscle strength, nutrition, weight change, balance, endurance, fatigue and physical activity. Some frailty assessment tools include only physical phenotypes of frailty, whereas the others contain various clinical domains. We reviewed various frailty assessment tools and analyzed the characteristics of each tool. Researchers or clinicians can select the appropriate frailty assessment tool according to their purpose.
